Particularly considering this year there will be the addition of regional championships luring runners to the event.
After plenty of consultation with his counterparts from the Carcoar Cup along with Mudgee, Bathurst and Dubbo’s annual festivals, Vidler said the decision to establish an accumulative regional championship in a number of events “just made sense”.
“It adds another aspect to it, it’s a bit new, a bit exciting,” Vidler said.
“A lot of the details haven’t been nailed down yet but it will be an accumulative thing. The elite runners, or just those competing at all the festivals, will be able to accrue points across all of them toward the regional championship.
“It’ll mainly be in the bigger events, the half-marathon and the marathon for example, but as a I said not all the details have been nailed down.
“All the organisers of each city’s event got together to discuss it and it seems like it just makes sense to add that factor in to it.”
Vidler said there is already plenty of buzz around next year’s event thanks to the reputation the Running Festival has forged since its inception.
With that in mind, he said organisers are expecting thousands of people to compete on February 25 and 26 next year.
“We’re hoping to get a couple of thousand running,” Vidler enthused.
“Last year our festival happened to fall in line with the training schedules of some serious runners, even some who were preparing for the Olympic Games.
“So I’m not sure we’ll get that calibre of runner again but we have built a reputation, so there will definitely be some very high standard runners coming.”
Vilder also announced the 2017 Running Festival’s charity partner, Food Care Orange.
The Running Festival has donated over $100,000 to worthy causes in Orange during its time.
“Food Care Orange does such an amazing job, we jumped at the chance to partner with them,” Vidler said.
