The wagon was given to the museum by the Orange Regional Museum Fund who also handed over a $105,000 which they had fundraised.
Fund chairman Russell Tym said the wagon would be one of several iconic items which illustrated part of Orange’s history.
After being used on the 32 hour journey to Penrith, the wagon was used by Westpac as part of their bicentenary celebrations and donated to the fund.
Westpac’s Western NSW general manager Barry Ruddy said putting a value on the wagon was difficult.
“We’ve been asked several times for insurance but it’s irreplaceable,” Mr Ruddy said.
Councillor Russell Turner said the commitment shown by the Orange Regional Museum Fund was just one example of the community’s dedication to improving life in the city.
“(The wagon) will have pride of place in the museum, I’m sure.”
