Just two summers after struggling to get a run in either New South Wales or Victoria’s Sheffield Shield or now-Matador Cup side the burly right-armer is set to make his international debut alongside the best Australia has to offer, against the best South Africa can produce.
That’s right, Tremain could be bowling to the likes of AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis in some of the highest profile grounds in the world – a far cry from bouncing out Orange’s batsman at Wade Park.
Lehmann has confirmed Tremain along with fellow uncapped quicks Joe Mennie and Daniel Worrall will all see game time during the six-game series – which starts next week – marking the first time in 30 years that Australia has blooded three new ODI quicks in a single series.
The entire side boasts about the same level of experience, or lack thereof, only Steve Smith, his deputy David Warner and Aaron Finch remain from the 2015 World Cup winning XI.
"It's a great challenge for our young guys, they're good young players and they'll go well,” Lehmann told cricket.com.au.
"We've also got some good quality there with Hastings who has played really well for us, Boland did well last series (in Sri Lanka) and then you've got the three debutants who will play at some stage during the tournament.
"We're hoping they step up and I'm sure they will. They've got some pace, they swing the ball and we've got some variations.
"We're going to see some young guys go at it, and someone gets to make a name for themselves in a high-quality series.”
The first ODI is at Centurion on Friday, September 30 (local time).
