It is obvious the benefits that people in these professions can gain from serving would probably be well above any other single profession.
I am of the belief that the best way forward is for these professions not to be able to stand as I do not doubt that some people in the real estate industry in the past have not stood because they feel it is not a good look.
To say that they could abstain from voting on relevant matters is not sufficient as they are privy to beneficial information regarding planning, developments and the like.
These items are a big part of any council operation. Perhaps we should say, if in doubt, don't.
Thank you,
Max Gregory
THERE’S STILL A LONG WAY TO GO TO REPAIR HOSPITAL
ALTHOUGH it was overdue good news to see Dr Amos back at work we need to be aware that the path to healing our hospital is still long.
The hospital administrators have only recently begun to engage with the Medical Staff Council after their vote of no confidence in the administration in May.
Much depends on this administration’s ability to follow fair process and demonstrate increased transparency.
If they cannot, our doctors will have to continue to fight for a better functioning workplace.
The medical community is watching and hoping.
Five years ago our hospital was a proudly collegial workplace, surely it can be that again?

NOT A FAN OF ANY ABBOTT PLAN TO ASSUME CONTROL
SOME political journalists continue to suggest that there's a chance that Tony Abbott may challenge Malcolm Turnbull for the leadership of the Federal Coalition, and thus become our Prime Minister once again.
I know that anything seems possible in today's world of politics, but if that was to happen, I'll be buying a one-way ticket to New Zealand as quickly as possible.
P.S. In my opinion, the strange circus of United States politics goes on and continues to cause many of us serious concerns.
