Copping both barrels over hunting practice

AS a professional environmental educator I deplore the inappropriateness of messaging safe hunting practices to five-year-olds (Good Will Hunting, Sept 24) via free water bottle handouts from the game Council of NSW.

Their minds don’t need to be confused by the premise that hunting should even be occurring in their limited world as a five-year-old.

As an admirer of what Orange has to offer the tourist, my wife and I will not be coming back to your wonderful city while hunting is allowed at Mount Canobolas ... I want to remember the (safe) peace and quiet at the views and on the tracks I experienced last time I was there.

Full marks to efforts of  council in trying to get the decision on hunting at Mount Canobolas reversed.

Orange has enough going for it to attract visitors without stuffing up a wonderful area in the mistaken belief that it will do something for feral animals or tourism ... I will be planning future holidays to regions where national parks have not become shooting galleries.
