Ben Cox and Brad Roberts travelled away to the West Dubbo Bowls club to represent the Zone 4 Bowling Association in the NSW Junior 7-a-side.
Firstly to even be in the side is an achievement within itself, but these boys would not settle at that.
Ben contested the pairs as a skip and Brad skipped the fours.
At the end of the first day both boys had won through to the semi-finals on the second day.
Ben had a tough game but worked hard to stay in the game but was beaten by the Zone 2 side that were the eventual winners.
Ben and his teammate played extremely well in the bronze medal play-off and took out the bronze medal.
Brad and his fours team came up against a very strong Zone 5 side and were down 8-0 early on in the game but fought back to take the victory 18-13.
This win put them in a good position to take out the final.
Once again after being down 10-1 early on Brad and his team playing some very big pressure bowls to get back and grab the gold medal with a 14-13 victory over Zone 14.
At the conclusion of the event, Zone 4 took out the champion Zone title as well, due to the Gold in the fours, Bronze in the pairs and Bronze to Jono Davis from Dubbo Railway in the singles.
Congratulations to all of Zone 4!
Last Thursday at social Thursday bowls we had one full green and two extra rinks.

Country Club Men
NO SOCIAL bowls last Saturday due to cold and miserable conditions but Sunday dawned with a partly cloudy day and four players from the club ventured to Molong Bowling Club for their Prestige Triples.
None of the players came home with any prizes but the “Giant Killer” team of Peter Baker, Phil McGarity and Ian Davidson were at it again and in the first round drew with a fancied team from Manildra.
In the second round the team was able to beat a side from Molong by nine shots then in the final round beat the short-priced favourite Molong team by one shot on the last end, spoiling their day and they are dark and dirty about it – so much so we almost had to have an escort to leave town.
Congratulations to the winners on the day the Orange City team of the Glen and Nev. Seaton and Barry Riley.
With the predicted low temperature, the even lower wind chill factor and lack of numbers the day was cancelled.
Next Saturday the Orange Motor Group Invitation Restricted Triples tournament will be held with good prize money which will be varied according to the number of teams entered get your teams organised ASAP because the draw needs to be done by tomorrow.
Also nomination sheets are on the board for the return visit by 18 players from West Dubbo Bowling Club on afternoon of September 3, commencing with a lunchtime barbecue and Peter Baker’s Presidents’ Day on Sunday morning followed by lunch on September 4 details are on the noticeboard.
The Major Fours Championship draw has been done and will be listed in this column closer to the scheduled date of September 17 and 18.
The date for the final of the Major Triples will be arranged as soon as participants are free from other obligatory championships and will appear in these notes.
The Major Minor Pairs Championship closing dates have been deferred to a later date and we need more nominations for all events.
The trip to Nyngan is on again to play in the Golden Ram Mixed Pairs over the October long weekend and if you are intending on going please advise Peter Baker on or before September 12.

Orange City Women
ANOTHER week of cancelled bowls saw our Triples Championships deferred to a date to be decided.
Seeing as the weather has kept us from playing bowls we have decided to meet for a cuppa instead at 10.30am until the weather gods allow us to play again so we can keep abreast of what is happening in our club.
In total, 35 members gathered to do just that and we held our quarterly meeting to bring everyone up to speed on all the necessary agendas to do with the running of our club.
All members have a part to play and the right to a say as was evident at the meeting when several members put forward their ideas and points of view for discussion.
Last Wednesday four teams traveled to Manildra for an enjoyable Gala Day of fun friendship and fantastic food.
Our players scored two wins and two losses.
There are plenty of upcoming events at the club, with the nearest being the Fathers Day Mixed Triples, which will be held this Saturday August 27 with a 1pm start.
Ladies to bring a plate and $10. Raffles and great prizes so come along and have some fun.
Dress regulations are neat and tidy.
If the weather is not kind on Saturday and you wish to know if play will go ahead, Irene Rich and Marianne Boers will be contactable at the club from 11am on 63600704.
The regional playoffs will be held at Gulgong over three days from August 29.
We will have 11 of our ladies competing so good luck and good bowling.
Jan Oakley will be unavailable for coaching next Monday as she will be competing at Gulgong.

Manildra
The second semi-final of the Club Triples was played on the weekend under very difficult windy conditions.
The Allcorn brothers, Todd, Sam and Ben proved too strong for Mark Gosper, Iain Campbell and Adam Campbell.
The Allcorn boys will now play Reg Hughes, Ned Kurta and Anthony Regan in the final.
This should turn out to be a great match-up.
A reminder to our members we have our AGM this Sunday starting at 10am. All members are urged to attend.
Newstead Women
We had a gorgeous sunny day for our first bowls day at our new venue.
Newstead ladies are now bowling each Thursday at the Ex-Services Country Club, and we would like to thank the management and staff there for their warm welcome.
The ladies felt a little ‘rusty’ after the long break due to the weather, but it was a great day, the winners being Judith Murray and Chris Shaw. Congratulations to them both.
Preparations are under way for Newstead’s Gala day on October 6, so keep the date free to join us on the green at the Country Club.
Indoor Championships
The Australian Indoor Championships will ignite at Tweed Heads Bowls Club kicked off on Monday.
Some of the biggest stars in both Australian and international bowls will again descended on Tweed Heads Bowls Club for the 29th annual Australian Indoor Championships.
The first round of the grueling four-day knockout event kicked off on Monday, August 22 featuring elite fields of 32 in both the men’s and women’s singles.
The champions of each discipline taking home a $6,000 winner’s cheque and passage into next year’s World Cup.

In the men’s side of the championship draw, former Golden Eagle Jeremy Henry (Warilla, NSW) will be looking to add a third Australian Indoors title to his already brimming trophy cabinet.
