A group of school leaders and youth ambassadors involved in the school’s RED25 blood drive gathered at the Orange Donor Centre to donate last Wednesday as part of a campaign which has been running all year.
Among the members of the Blood Youth Ambassadors Team is year 11 student Sam Basha who cannot donate blood due to health reasons but was the recipient of a blood transfusion when he was 13, giving him firsthand knowledge of the importance of the donations.
He said RED25 is a group donation scheme for organisations, companies and schools to participate in and this year the school had 100 people involved.
“So far we’ve got 70 donations already and there’s several more on the waiting list at James Sheahan,” Sam said.
“For every donation it’s three lives saved so it’s 210 lives saved so far.”
He said students must be aged over 16 to give blood.
