A staggering fact considering the lead-up to his first shot at a professional Australian belt.
Bubb suffered his first professional loss in controversial circumstances against Alex Ilijoski in their middleweight bout at the Melbourne Pavillion just over a month ago, leading trainer Anthony Wharton to brand the split decision as “disgraceful”.
On top of that, Bubb has had to put on significant weight to be classed in the super middleweight division for his national title bout with Jake Lund, adding a touch under four kilograms to his 72.5 kg frame.
Bubb said he was focused ahead of the 76.2kg WBC Australian super middleweight title fight in Brisbane on Saturday night, and had a little barb for Illijoski along the way.
“I’m not too worried about it. .. that guy knows I won,” Bubb said, before looking ahead to Saturday night.
“It’s been five weeks building up power and strength and getting used to it … he’s going to hit a lot harder than Alex did in Melbourne. It’s been preparation for that. Ready to mix with the big boys.”
While acknowledging the higher weight division will mean his opponent boasts more power, the added weight on Bubb’s frame will add plenty to the 18-year-old’s own repertoire.
“I’ve been fighting guys older than me since I was 14,” Bubb added.
“The experience doesn’t worry me. The size, they’ll hit harder, but either way, they’re human.
“They all put their shorts on the same way, put their gloves on the same way and go down the same way.”
