THE installation of $55,000 worth of solar panel at the field days will save the committee about $45 per day in their electricity bills.
The figure is based on optimum production and is affected by cloud cover.
Hybrid Solar was responsible for the supply and fit of the panels.
Commercial sales representative Phil Robertson said the installation was one of the biggest in the region. In optimum conditions the solar panels draw about 21 kilowatts. At 11am yesterday the panels were making about 17 kilowatts.
“The productivity is affected by only a small amount of cloud cover,” Mr Robertson said.
“You’ve got to be using what you’re producing to make it effective.”
On Wednesday the units produced about 140 kilowatts hours.
Mr Robertson said in the last 12 months the company had noticed a significant increase in the demand from households for solar panels. He said there had been a shift in the usage. Previously there was a 60 cent feed-in tariff, now there is eight cents. He said people had gone from trying to make money to saving money.
