THERE may not be any hope of the Cowra Magpies featuring in the post-season but captain-coach Rory Brien said there’s still plenty of pride worth playing for.

Sunday looms as an opportunity – albeit a difficult one – for the Magpies to redeem themselves from round seven’s shattering two-point loss suffered against the second placed Bathurst Panthers.
It was a game Cowra dominated and led for the majority of, but the win slipped through their grasp in the final 15 seconds when Panthers’ Jed Betts scored the match-winner, sealing a 30-24 win.
For Brien, out of all the close matches Cowra have been on the wrong end of this campaign, that was most difficult to swallow.
“It’ll be in the back of the minds of all the boys, we know we should have beat them last time,” he said.
Brien took confidence out of Cowra’s third win of the season last start at Sid Kallas Oval where they knocked over Lithgow Workies for the second occasion.
He was pleased with the work of his halves pairing Cameron Breust and Cody Brooks, and is hoping to see them dictate the game in Cowra’s favour again this Sunday.
“They did a good job against Lithgow but we know we can do better,” Brien said.
“We’re struggling to play consistently good, if we can start doing that we’ll win a lot more games.”
The Magpies travel to Bathurst to take on the Panthers at Carrington Park at 2pm this Sunday.
