Glenroi Heights Public School teacher Martelle Bennett said her class decided to plant trees in Glenroi Park.
Trees were donated by Orange City Council and volunteers from the Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange (ECCO) and the Glenroi Community Group.
“It’s really great that we can work together with the community to beautify the oval,” Ms Bennett said.
“The students love being in the garden.”
Calare Public School principal Chris Cundy said it was an important day for students.
“If they can help nature stay healthy, I think it’s a good lesson,” Mr Cundy said.
“It gives students an environmental conscience.”
ECCO's president Nick King said the day was a part of the student’s environmental education.
“It’s a very important facet of their education because we’re becoming more of an urbanised community,” Mr King said.
“One of the things we must get back to is valuing environmental issues and contributing to our natural resources.”
National Tree Day will be held on Sunday, July 29.
Due to the recent wet weather, council activities have been postponed to a later date.
