The Victoria Spitfires had a 6-5 win over the Great Western Tigers after the Tigers took a 4-2 lead after the singles but the wheels fell off in the doubles losing all three and then one of the triples.
The Spitfires’ top scores were hit by Kevin Owers (117, 100), Mark Wiegold (3x100), Damien Caughlan (2x100), John Grevink (122, 120) and Jason Fewings (100).
Dave Whitmore (6x100, 2x140, 122), Barry Wicks (3x100), Andy Whitmore (3x100), Gordon Crisp (140, 120, 100) and Michael Whitmore (3x100) got the big scores for the Tigers.
The Metro Pilots locked in their 6-5 win over the Victoria Assassins by taking three singles and then the three doubles before the Assassins fought back winning both triples.
The Pilots’ big scores were hit by Justin Metcraft (140, 132, 120, 116, 100), Jay Jordan (100), Daniel Wiegold (100), Darrell Warren (140), Troy Sale (2x100, 125), Mark McKenzie (2x100) and Mark Tilston (140, 118).
Rob Puckeridge hit the first 180 of the competition along with three 100s and 140.
He had good backing from Jess Wiegold (2x135, 2x100, 125), Rod Millar (125,100), Damian Doolan (100), Charlie O’Neil (120) and Brett Savill (2x100).
In division 2 the Carrington Devils turned in a top effort for their 6-5 win over the Ophir Nuggets with the top scores hit by Gavin Smith (120, 100), John Lynch (109) and Steve Cassell (2x100) while Rob Herbert, (100), Terry McInnes (111) and Darren Goodlock (100) had good games for the Nuggets.
Metro Old Boys showed some good form for their 6-5 win over the Royal with Troy Mavrak (140, 100), Jeff Grindrod (100) and Phil Sturt (117) getting the big scores.
The Royal’s best were Liam Fitzpatrick (105), Stuart Carolan (111), Keith Hayward (100) and Steve Leonard (3x100).
The presentation dinner for the summer competition will be held on Saturday August 13 at the Victoria and people going should pay and get their tickets at the Victoria by August 5 so that numbers can be given to caterers.
