When weather prevented planes from landing at Orange on June 27, unlike on previous occasions when Rex has provided a bus, one flight of passengers was told they needed to make their own way home due to icy road conditions.
However, councillor Reg Kidd said a couple spent about $100 on a hire car but the travel insurer required a letter from Rex and Rex would only provide it for a $50 fee.
“They were gobsmacked and told me it just was not worth the time and energy,” Cr Kidd said.
A Rex spokeswoman said insurance bought through Rex did not require a letter because Rex it would liaise with the insurance company without charge.
“Insurance that is not bought through Rex will incur this administrative fee as this is an additional service not covered by the airfare.”
