In April this year Mr Nixon’s son Joshua presented to Bloomfield, suffering from severe depression and drug addiction. He was told he would be admitted to Lyndon Withdrawal Unit's rehabilitation program the following week.
Six days later he took his own life.
Mr Nixon said he received positive signs of change in mental health processes but he wanted to ensure any improvements were not confined to Orange.
“I’ve been hearing from other people [on social media] who have had similar cases,” Mr Nixon said.
“I want to see changes not just in Orange or Australia. I would like to develop a foundation, I’ve had the idea for a few years since my daughter’s death and my son’s death has sped things up.”
Mr Nixon said the first goal of the foundation would be to drive calls for a royal commission.
