EXPECT the best out of Catherine McAuley pair Ben Norris and Jessie Medlyn at this week’s NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) athletics carnival at Homebush.
The pair will be looking to improve on their efforts at the recent Polding carnival in Newcastle.
Winning silver in each event they competed in to progress through to the Homebush carnival, Norris will contest the boys’ 10 years 100 and 200 metre sprint as well as the high jump, while Medlyn will attempt to beat her best in the girls’ 12 years and over long jump.
So much so, the pair is eyeing off gold.
Medlyn said she was excited about heading to Homebush to represent Polding.
“I’m looking to beat what I jumped in Newcastle,” the year 6 student said.
Norris, 10, is a seasoned veteran in the Polding colours.
The year 5 student has been to the PSSA carnival two times before this week’s event and believes he can run a time fast enough to see him better his efforts of 2011.
“I think I can beat what I ran last year,” Norris said.
“I ran 15.10 at last year’s carnival but I’m running 14.60s now.”
Orange will have a strong representation at the PSSA carnival when it kicks of today at Homebush.
From Orange Christian School, Tiana James qualified after finishing third in the NSW Combined Independent Schools 10 years girls’ shot put with a throw of 8.33m.
Andrew Romano is first reserve in the boys’ 10 years shot put after he finished fourth at NSW CIS with a throw of 8.89m.
Bletchington Public School has a host of kids making the trip with Kyle Rosewarn (12 years boys’) and Cheynoah Merchant (12 years girls’) competing in the 100m sprint.
Jordan Bruce will compete in the junior boys’ high jump and Grace Khattar, Erin Naden and Eva Reith-Snare will be joined by Merchant in the relay.
Annabell Crisp from Calare Public School will take part in the 200m sprint.
Orange Public School students Jack Connors (13 years boys’), Sam Ridley (11 years boys’) and James Thompson (eight years boys’) are running in their respective 100m sprints and Caitlin Broadfoot in the junior girls long jump.
