In the city to cast an absentee vote David Neill said he took his chance to have a say seriously.
“I used ABC Vote Compass and I’ve been keeping up with the news,” Mr Neill said.
While he wanted to see a clear outcome in the parliament, there was doubt as it was anyone’s election.
“I don’t think it’s possible for a clear result, it’s such a 50-50 chance and a hung parliament can be tricky,” he said.
“It’s the games that go on on the floor of the parliament and the media attention it attracts that is bad.
“It detracts from the policy debate.”
Orange’s Thomas McCann has also been keeping up with the election campaign.
“I prefer independent candidates, I don’t really feel happy giving major parties my first preference,” he said.
