For most people getting some exercise is as easy as heading to the gym, playing sport or jumping on a push bike.

But that’s not possible for everyone.

On Thursday, Orange City Council officially opened some new gym equipment at Moulder Park on Sale Street.

It’s designed for everyone to use, particularly people with a disability.

Resident Rocky Mileto, who is wheelchair-bound, said the gym equipment represented inclusion.

“The thing is with this project is, lots of council’s talk about looking after everyone in the community,” Mr Mileto said.

Mr Mileto said he was impressed that council had managed to deliver the project despite the pressures faced financially and with amalgamations looming.

He said it would mean his entire family would be able to be active together, something which was not possible before.

“The community should give council a tick of approval for this,” he said.

“To take the gym from inside to the outside, and make it available for everyone both able-bodied and with a disability is incredible.

“I would have loved to have something like this 20 years ago.”

Students from the Anson Street School were the first to put themselves and the gym to the test.

Tyler Grant, 16 completed more than few sets of chin-ups and push-ups and said he’d be back but “maybe when it’s no so cold … (and) not when it’s minus two.”

Orange’s outdoor accessible gym was made possible by the Orange City Council with the support of a funding grant from the NSW Office of Sport and Recreation.

Council’s community recreation and culture director Scott Maunder said the inclusion for all residents was an ideal taken seriously.

“We want to provide services to all people and areas,” Mr Maunder said.

He said building an outdoor gym was an integral part of that idea to provide not just roads and rubbish collection but services for all residents.
