Hindmarsh was the special guest at Caltex Park and was on hand to see St Mary’s Dubbo win the Richardson Cup while Cowra’s Mulyan Public School won the prestigious Peachey Shield.
Orange Public School was the best performed side of the colour city’s contingent, which also included Bletchington, Calare and St Mary’s, making it through to the semi-finals of the Peachey Shield before being knocked out by Mulyan.
Hindmarsh was particularly pleased with the brand of football the Mulyan side played but said each and every side performed well.
“It was a great day and one of many shields they play for, this being Peachey and Richardson, but there’s the Andrew Ryan Cup and others in this region and they’re all great days,” he said.
“It was a great day, the football was played in really good spirits and I think Nathan Hindmarsh was pretty impressed with what he saw, considering they’re under-12 sides and younger,” NRL game development officer Mick Armstrong said.
The St Mary’s Dubbo side proved far too strong in the Richardson Cup decider and won 24-12 off the back of a man-of-the-match display from Darby Haycock and double for Nate Wilson.
Mulyan Public won the Peachey Shield 16-8 and the Cowra school will now travel to Sydney on August 24 for the Legends Shield Finals Day.
