Mariners were down 4-1 during the second half, with only an Andrew Smith goal to their name, when they began to claw their way back into the game.
Goals from the Mariners’ Jeremy Judge and Matt Corben got the margin back to one but a late goal from the Rage secured the result.
“It was a good effort from us and the score won’t show that. We were short by five players … and we did all that we could out there,” Mariners captain Adam Scimone said.
“When we got it back to 4-3 we really started to believe that we could do it. We had a really strong final 20 minutes.
“We bombed everyone forward to find another goal but they got us on the counter-attack.”
On a brighter note, the Mariners have jumped off the bottom of the club championship table thanks to wins from their 18s (5-0) and 20s (1-0) against Granville.
