As a result, the city’s governing football body has taken measures to ensure junior and senior footballers at all levels get as much game time as possible.
The response?
“It’s been of real quality at the moment,” Mileto enthused.
“We’re looking at putting on two gala days for our non-competitive age groups, those players in the six to 11 age bracket, throughout the school holidays.
“We’ve put in place a number of wash-out weekends for the senior grades, we’ll play football on Saturday and Sundays to help play all of the games as well.
“At the moment we’re doing as much as we can to get the games played.”
Soccer more than most sports has felt the brunt of the deluge dampening June in Orange.
Jack Brabham was closed last weekend, and still is this week, as the ODFA and Orange City Council endeavour to have the grounds fit for play this weekend.
“The thing with football is the ball needs to be able to roll,” he said. “That has been a possibility lately. On top of that, we’ve got to take into account people’s safety.” The ODFA is proposing to run its first junior gala day on Saturday, July 2.
