It is estimated that more than 800,000 people in Australia will be diagnosed with epilepsy at some stage in their life.
Approximately 25,000 people in Australia are diagnosed with epilepsy each year and there are 40 different types of epilepsy and epilepsy syndromes.
While it is not necessarily a lifelong disorder, it can have profound social, physical and psychological consequences.
To help develop awareness and educate about epilepsy a NSW Central West epilepsy education afternoon has been organised by the Orange Neurology Centre.
The session is open to the public and any health professionals who wish to attend to get more of an understanding about the condition and the latest treatments available.
One of the speakers on the day will be central west neurologist Dr James Gordon who trained in Sydney and London.
Other presenters will include Dr Andrew Bleasel, Neurologist from Westmead Hospital and Claire Ward, a local dietician, as well as two additional presenters who will share their own personal experiences.
The afternoon will be held on Wednesday, July 20 from 1.30pm to 4:30pm in the Coral Sea Room at Orange Ex-Services Club.
If you wish to attend this informative afternoon places are limited so please RSVP to secure a ticket.
The event is free to attend and is open to people with epilepsy, their carers, families and friends, general practitioners and allied health professionals.
