Woolworths Orange store manager Derryn Linke said at least 20 residents had been targeted by the scam in the past two weeks.
“People should delete it straight away,” he said.
“Woolworth currently has no promotion offering people $50 for a survey ... this is a hoax.”
Mr Linke said despite so many people receiving the email, most realised it was a scam when they were asked to provide personal details.
Mr Links said email recipients were randomly selected and were not necessarily people who used Woolworths’ loyalty program Everyday Rewards.
Woolworths’ head office recently issued a warning to its customers informing them the scam involved both a customer satisfaction survey and a Facebook competition offering $500 in prize money.
In the customer note people were warned not to provide theirr personal or credit card details.
Customers were advised that all Woolworths’ official competitions were listed on the promotions and competitions page of the company’s website www.woolworths.com.au.
“Please check there first to see if it’s an official Woolworths competition,” the Woolworths warning stated.
