Up to 9am on Wednesday, 37mm fell during the night meaning Orange has been drenched by 234.6 mm this month.
According to Weatherzone.com, our previous mark was 178.6 which fell in 1998.
For the record, Orange's long-term average rainfall for June is 73.3mm.
The result has been an almost instant upward trajectory for Orange's water storage figures with Spring Creek now overflowing meaning good flow-on to our main reservoir, Suma Park Dam.
Last Friday, Suma Park levelled at 57.5 per cent capacity while Spring Creek was at 100 per cent.
Combined storage for the city was 65.9.
On Wednesday, Suma Park had risen by almost five per cent a day to 74 per cent, thanks largely to the run-off from Spring Creek and this month's almost instant switch to La Nina weather patterns.
Earlier this year Orange City Council completed construction to raise Suma Park’s wall, during which time the dam level was restricted to 80 per cent of its capacity.
Although council is continuing to commission new plant equipment, the water level restriction no longer applies and with run-off expected to continue for some time despite rainfall, it's plausible to predict the reservoir could reach capacity in the coming weeks.
Council staff are also looking forward to hosting a community open day later in the year when residents will be able to see the work at Suma Park first hand.
This week’s heavy rainfalls have resulted in some flooding, Huntley Road’s low-level bridge was yesterday under a metre of water as was the Fourth Crossing on Ophir Road.
And there's not much joy in sight for residents sick of the rain, with more showers predicted for Thursday afternoon and thunderstorms on Friday, with maximum temperatures of 9 and 8 respectively.
The sun should come out on Saturday but it's back to showers on Sunday.
Early risers can look forward to minimum temps of -2 and -3 on the weekend.
