THE ball dominated the second round of the Orange District Cricket Association second grade season, with bowlers Ed Morrish and Anthony Salmon each taking five-wicket hauls to help lead their sides to victory.
Morrish led CYMS to a 113-run triumph over a powerful Gladstone outfit at Moulder Park on Saturday, taking 5-54 to help the green and golds comfortably defend a total of 8-225 in an entertaining lower grade affair.
Perhaps in a sign of just how entertaining, Morrish’s figures were recorded in just six overs.
CYMS remain undefeated after two rounds this season.
Making the road trip to Spring Hill all the more worthwhile for Centrals was Salmon’s efforts with the cherry.
The right arm medium pacer claimed 5-20 from his seven overs to guide Centrals to an emphatic 117-run win over Waratahs.
Centrals batted first and made 162 from their 40 overs, and thanks to Salmon, Matt Weller (3-10) and Barney Davis (2-14), dismissed Waratahs for just 45 to cap off the club’s first win of the 2012-13 season.
An Adam Cowden-inspired Orange City defeated club mates City Warriors at Max Stewart.
Cowden bowled economically in claiming 3-11 off eight overs against Warriors in their innings of 8-135.
Cowden then finished off the job with the bat, knocking 59 not out to share in a 124-run fifth wicket stand with Shaun Churchill (55no) to guide Orange City to the six-wicket win, after the side was at one stage 4-12.
Kinross 2nds hit 180 batting first in their clash with Cavaliers at Sally Kennett Oval.
It proved enough too with the students bowling out Cavs for 146 to win by 34 runs.
The battle of Metro was an entertaining one, with Force setting the Wanderers a total of 155 for victory.
Mitch Kennewell was the star with the bat for Force, hitting eight fours in an innings of 40 while Daryl Kennewell was dangerous with the ball for Wanderers claiming 4-25, including the wicket of his brother Mitch.
In reply the Wanderers didn’t have much luck with the willow, bowled out for 62.
Gav Smith was dominant in a three-over spell with the ball, claiming 4-2.
In the Centenary Cup, CYMS Fahys edged out Orange City by one wicket and Kinross 3rds won by 49 runs against CYMS Kellys.
