WHILE his step-brother Jesse may be sweeping all before him in the junior ranks on the national squash scene, Ryan Bushel-Keegan, too, can squash it with the best of them.
A relative novice with only four years of experience under his belt, Bushel-Keegan will become the number one player in the under 13s age group when January 1, 2013, ticks over in a little over two-and-a-half months time.
Bushel-Keegan finished his 2012 Australian Junior Championship under 13s campaign fifth after bowing out in the third round to Jacob Salmon 11-4, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9 in a hard fought contest.
He then went on to win both of his remaining games, defeating Liam Bruno and Lindsay Davis, to finish in the top five.
But Bushel-Keegan’s fifth-place rank will soon become a No.1 ranking.
Come the new year, the top four ranked players in the under 13s age group nation wide will progress up to the under 15s competition, leaving Bushel-Keegan, 11, as the top dog - a title he is determined to keep.
“I’ll have to work hard to keep my ranking,” Bushel-Keegan said.
“I’m really enjoying playing at national championships. The travelling and meeting new friends is great.”
