Mr Gee resigned from his state office to contest the federal election on July 2, where he will be opposed by Mr Bloomfield.
The cost of the state byelection to seat Mr Gee’s replacement is estimated at $500,000.
Mr Bloomfield says that’s too great a price for taxpayers to foot.
“I’m giving voice to the concern of the people of the Calare electrorate that this half-million-dollar cost should be covered by Andrew Gee or The Nationals,” Mr Bloomfield said.
The Nick Xenophon Team candidate refuted claims from the Orange Ratepayers Association that Mr Gee’s representation in Canberra would be worth the byelection’s $500,000 price tag and listed a palliative care centre, SES or RFS, roads and TAFE funding as his preferred uses for the funds.
