MANY CHANCES: Mudgee-based trainer Jeff Brasch will saddle up five runners in today’s meeting at Towac Park.
LIGHTLY raced five-year-old Acazano will lead trainer Jeff Brasch’s charge at Towac Park today with the galloper chasing his third career win from just four starts.
The late bloomer arrived at Brasch’s stables as an unraced four-year-old and has quickly started to pay for himself with a couple of wins in easier company than what he faces in the Melbourne Cup Packages on Sale Class 2 Plate (1400m).
Drawing the outside barrier has also made Acazano’s task even more complicated, but Brasch feels today’s race, the last in Racing Orange’s nine-race program at Towac Park, will provide him and his owners with a better guide to the gelding’s capabilities.
“He won a non-TAB maiden at Gulgong and then backed it up to win a TAB race at Mudgee when he had the blinkers on,” Brasch said.
“I expect him to begin well and race up near the speed - it will be a good test to see where he is up to.”
Browden, a winner of his past two starts, is a doubtful starter after also drawing wide.
Brasch said Acazano would start regardless as there were few other options for him.
“He has a great nature and has done everything right so far,” he said.
“It’s a harder race, but I think he can be competitive.”
Brasch will take five runners to Orange and also likes the credentials of Blue Mantle and Cassie’s favourite in the Mullion Produce Class 1 (1000m).
Blue Mantle is first-up from a break while Cassie’s Favourite finished second first-up from a spell.
The duo have been extremely consistent and their trainer expcts them to perform well.
“Cassie’s Favourite is lightly raced and has run second a couple of times since winning - the track was a bit hard for her last time,” he said.
“Blue Mantle is a nice mare who performed well last time in with a win and a few seconds.”
The first race jumps at 12.43pm today at Towac Park, with gates opening at 12pm.
