This disappointment is compounded by the fact that the clinicians involved know, full well, that an investigation of these types of issues must be undertaken totally independent of management. This is standard procedure, which has been adhered to.
Patient safety is paramount at Orange Health Service. A strict procedure is set in legislation that demands an independent investigation of alleged incidents. Failure to follow that procedure might even be considered a breach of the code of conduct.
As well, many of the facts of this issue have been mischievously represented to the public in an orchestrated campaign that impacts negatively on the good corporate image of the Orange Health Service and the morale of its wonderful, dedicated staff.
Orange Health Council is anxious to see a return to the world-class cardiology services that existed before this incident, as it is recognised as one of rural and regional NSW’s high-performing critical care facilities. But due process has to be observed. Pressure cannot be exerted on the process of the investigation.
