Orange Aero Club is hosting the morning tea in the Max Hazelton Aero Centre at the airport, but it isn’t just limited to small aircraft pilots and their passengers.
“We invite the whole community to come out and be involved, and it will be an ideal opportunity to view all the memorabilia in the Max Hazelton Aero Centre,” organiser Dr Stuart Porges said.
Dr Porges who has been a light aircraft pilot and enthusiast for decades, said he hopes the weather forecast improves for the weekend.
“It is not looking all that great at the moment with rain and poor weather expected in Sydney, which is where we would hope some of our participants would come from,” he said.
Dr Porges said he is fairly certain the event in Orange is unique in New South Wales providing an opportunity and a venue for pilots of small aircraft to contribute to the Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea effort.
“We do know there is a club in Victoria which has a similar event, but we don’t know of any others in NSW,” he said.
Mr Porges said anyone attending is asked to contribute $5.
“That’s not a lot for a cuppa and a piece of cake,” he said.
Dr Porges said although several aircraft could potentially be flying in at the same time the systems in place with logging flights means there should be no problems.
“We invite everyone to come along between 10am and noon in what is a great opportunity to look at the small planes and the Hazelton memorabilia area.
Anyone attending can park in the main airport area.
