CAN I suggest that before councillors Jones and Kidd push Orange City Council to spend big on replacing certain, deceased trees in parks etc, that a safety audit be done on existing trees around the city and near to residents’ homes to determine which of those get immediate attention.

One such tree that I share with an elderly neighbour, and indeed another in front of his residence, poses fire (leaves in gutters), gravitational (e.g. falling limbs), blocked stormwater drainage (leaves blocking stormwater drains, roots disrupting water supplies-fire hydrant access and causing water-flow issues) and public liability risks (tripping on roots, disruption of residential and council concrete sections). And the list goes on.
In short, nothing that a good trim and other, minor work wouldn’t fix before more trees are planted by council.
And it’s not for the lack of trying to get some risk mitigation work done by council.
As neighbours both of us have unsuccessfully tried to get something done about these trees that pose a threat to land /property and buildings.
Numerous contacts to council, including the GM, tech services even councillors, have not reaped a satisfactory response ... and not even an acknowledgement of council receiving one’s letters? So much for council’s ... “we’ll acknowledge within 14 days”.
