ORANGE District Cricket Association secretary Pete Jarick cited a lack of numbers as the reason the organisation was forced to postpone it’s annual general meeting on Sunday, with the new AGM expected to be scheduled for early June.
After being forced to also postpone the 2015-16 presentation night thanks to a lack of interest earlier in the season - it was originally scheduled for the week leading into the grand final - the ODCA had planned to couple Sunday’s AGM with an informal awards ceremony as well.
“There just wasn’t enough people there to do either,” Jarick said.
“We didn’t have enough for a quorum, I think it was just a bad day for it. A lot of people were away, there’s a lot of sport on at the moment as well.
“Maybe Sunday just wasn’t a good day to schedule it. [Several clubs] didn’t have anyone present at all. I’d think [those clubs] could have at least had one person turn up, but as I said, it might have just been a bad day for it.
“We’re looking at re-scheduling it for early June, before the first State of Origin game.”
In terms of the presentation night, Jarick said it was disappointing to not be able to hold a formal evening to recognise this season’s best performances, after reinvigorating the concept following season 2014-15.
“It is a bit, but I think it’s something we’ll have to really speak about in the lead up to next season, whether clubs and players are genuinely interested in it or not,” Jarick said.
“There’s a few things there we need to speak about with it, like the best date to do it and that sort of thing, we might need to look at having at a different time.
“For now, I think we’ll just be passing the awards on to each of the clubs at the AGM for them to then pass on to the winners.”
The major award, the ODCA cricketer of the year, was won by Cavaliers skipper Richie Venner, who plundered 576 runs at an average of 33.88 and also snared seven wickets at 22.57. His performances for Orange in the Western Zone Premier League and the Central West Wranglers in the Plan B Regional Bash were also taken into account.
The date for the ODCA’s second attempt at their AGM is still to be confirmed, but it’s expected to be either Monday, May 30 or Tuesday, May 31.
