A THIEF took advantage of an elderly shopper’s kindness yesterday morning by robbing her of a large sum of cash while she had her purse open to give him some money.
It is believed the 31-year-old thief approached the woman in Myer at around 10am, shortly after she had withdrawn cash from a nearby automatic teller machine.
The man asked her for a small amount of money before taking between $100 and $300 from her while she had her purse open.
Staff at Myer comforted the woman until police arrived a short time later.
Police used the store’s CCTV footage to help identify the man and he was arrested shortly after lunch at a house in Glenroi.
