Senior community relations specialist Melissa O’Brien said the tours on Saturday, May 14, will take in all aspects of the mine, from the historical workings to the future rehabilitation areas.
“We want to demystify the process of mining,” she said.
Visitors will begin the tour at one of the historical sites at the mine before heading to two of the tour’s biggest attractions.
“They will be taken to view the open pit lookout that was closed in 2012, and also be able to get in the buckets of some of the machinery and also stand in the tyre wells of the trucks,” Mrs O’Brien said.
One of the noisier sections will be watching the ore processing underway.
“Visitors will be just four metres away from the ball mills that crush the ore,” Mrs O’Brien said.
For safety reasons, the tour bus operates on a hop-on, hop-off basis and includes a visit to the tailings dam lookout, where visitors will be able to view the company’s revegetation and rehabilitation efforts.
The tour takes one-and-a-half hours, excluding the travel time out to the mine, and tickets are still available at the Blayney and Orange Visitor Information Centres and online at cadiavalley.com.au.
Cost is a gold coin donation and all money raised will be given to the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak.
The buses will leave from the Orange Showground during the Orange Farmers Market.
