CONFEDERATES have already suffered a horror start to the 2016 women’s Premier League Hockey season, fixtures wise, and it doesn’t get any easier for the Orange side this weekend when they face Bathurst City.
Including Saturday’s game against last year’s runners-up, Confederates will have played three of 2015’s top four sides in the space of six weeks having already clashed with last year’s premiers Lithgow Panthers and third-finishers Orange Ex-Services.
The winless Confederates side has also played Bathurst St Pat’s and Lithgow Zig Zag, who finished seventh and last respectively in 2015. However, St Pat’s happen to be sitting pretty in second this year.
“It’s not getting any easier, no, but at the very least we’ll have a full contingent to select from for I think the first time this season,” Confederates coach Fiona Reith said.
“We actually had to drop girls this week, which is unfortunate but also a positive position for us to be in.
“It’ll be a very tough game for us, Bathurst City have some juniors in their side as well I think but they’ve got a few old heads we’ll need to watch out for.
“You never really know what to expect with Bathurst City, except that it will be tough.”
Reith was loathe to suggest her side will produce a boilover win, preferring instead to focus on their continued development.
“I’d be reluctant to say we could produce an upset, but we’ve got the home ground advantage, you never know I guess,” she said.
“We just want to keep improving and seeing the girls improve individually and as a team, which we’re doing. We’ve been better each week, it’s been quite exciting to watch that development actually.”
Confederates take on Bathurst City at Orange Hockey Complex, from 2.35pm.
