With only one month to go, the Red Shield Appeal committee at the Salvation Army in Orange has called out for volunteers to help go knocking on the weekend of May 28-29.
“We need 350 volunteers every year,” said Salvation Army Captain David Grounds.
“We’ve contacted all the schools and they are always involved, as are the Rotary clubs in Orange. They’re really good people at Rotary.”
Captain Grounds said people needed not worry about having to walk for hours, as most volunteers usually averaged between one to two hours of their weekend.
“Many of the school students, though, do more than that and offer to do extra shifts as well,” he said.
In 2015, the Red Shield Appeal door knock raised $36,000, with the business community adding $19,000 to bring the total to $55,000.
A quick training session is given to all volunteers and then they’re allocated to one of three supervisors that are responsible for the three sections that Orange is divided into.
“We also have people collecting in Blayney, Molong and Cudal,” Captain Grounds said.
Volunteers can sign up online at http://salvos.org.au or by calling the Orange office on 6362 1870 on Tuesdays to Thursdays.
