Dennis Henry Hall and Stuart Campbell Hall were charged on their Coolabah property after a confrontation broke out with three Orange pig hunters who were illegally hunting on their Gongolong Road property.
Hunters Coen Kadic, Jay Jason Field and a third unnamed hunter alleged they were shot at and watched as their hunting dogs were shot in the head in January this year.
At Wednesday’s mention in Nyngan Local Court, magistrate Stewart confirmed both Dennis Hall and Stuart Hall had been served both their brief (of charges) and agreed to adjourn the trial to the June sitting at Nyngan local court.
The Halls were charged with three apprehended violence orders each and numerous firearm offences and animal cruelty.
The hunters, Kadic and Field have been convicted in Orange Local Court, with the other hunter given a section 10 bond without conviction. Kadic and Field both received $300 fines for hunting without licences and another $300 fine for entering private land to hunt animals without the consent of owners.
This is despite both hunters being on section nine bonds at the time of the confrontation.
Kadic and Field’s solicitor Clive Hill said the hunters suffered a great deal of retribution at the hands of the property owners and the dogs that were shot were of great sentimental value.
Mr Hill also said the firearms offences were more “life threatening” than they appeared. He said the bullet went through the windscreen of the utility and missed the men by mere inches.
Hall and Hall will appear at Nyngan local court on June 29.
