Initially the Roman Catholic, Church of England and Protestant churches intended to hold their own services, however following a public meeting it was decided to hold the first service outside the Former Town Hall (now OCTEC) in 1916.
Orange families mourned the death of local residents who died at Gallipoli the previous year.
The first service was held between 12.30pm and 1.30pm and marked a tradition that continues to this day.
Until Orange's Cenotaph was built in the early 1950's Anzac Day services were moved to the Boer War Memorial, which was formerly located in Summer Street.
These historic photographs, provided with the assistance of the Orange and District Historical Society Inc., were taken from photographic archives from the Central Western Daily.
