STRESS and depression are the biggest health issues facing people in the Orange region, according to author and medical professional Dr Sandra Cabot.
Dr Cabot will present a community health seminar on issues including anxiety and depression, looking after your immune system, getting rid of a fatty liver, thyroid problems and hormones.
“They are subjects that are really very important for people to take control of their health,” she said.
“I teach people about preventative medicine and people love that, they don’t know how basic things can impact on their life and longevity.”
Dr Cabot said the shortage of doctors in regional areas was a big problem and often led people to put off seeking medical treatment.
“Quite often I find women are really hungry for the knowledge and like to find out the simple things they can do to help their health,” she said.
Dr Cabot said many health conditions can be prevented.
“It’s important that people understand preventative medicine, if you look around we’ve got an epidemic of Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis and cancer,” she said.
“Even though I’m a medical doctor, I’m a naturopath at heart ... a lot of drugs are over prescribed.”
Dr Cabot is the author of 26 books including the popular Liver Cleansing Diet.
The seminar will be held at the Orange Ex-Services’ Club tomorrow, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
Tickets cost $20 per person, with a percentage of takings going towards Operation Courage for women and children experiencing domestic violence.
