A COMPREHENSIVE defeat at the hands of Group 9 earlier this month isn’t cause for concern for Group 10 coach Anthony Boza leading into Saturday’s Western Division Representative Cluster.
Boza said his Group 10 side had barely spent any time together leading into that loss against a powerful Group 9 side and he’s certain that, after several training sessions, his side will click in Saturday’s clash with Group 11 at Gilgandra’s McGrane Oval.
The victor of their game will move into the final, against the winner of the Woodbridge Cup-Castlereagh League fixture.
Boza said his side had been somewhat ambushed by Group 9 in the trial, falling victim, for the most part, to their speed.
“We’ve had a few training sessions together now so we’re pretty confident,” Boza said.
“The Group 9 side we played caught us off guard a little bit, but [we’re a better side] now.”
Places in the Western Rams side for the inaugural AAMI League Tag Regional Championship are on the line in Saturday’s carnival, that side will be named next Wednesday.
Bathurst St Pat’s maestro Michelle Somers along with a quartet of her 2015 Group 10 title-winning teammates are all staring down the barrel of Western jerseys, should they perform, as is Blayney speedster Liv Bird.
The remainder of the side have all impressed at training and will be given every opportunity to put forward their case for selection as well.
Orange CYMS’ Emily Melnik dropped out of the squad late in the week, with Cowra Magpies Stacey Ashe and Melissa Knight both being added to the group.
Orange Hawkette Kasey Byrne and CYMS recruit Teiya Thornberry will be Orange’s lone representatives as a result, with two of Bird’s Bears teammates, Sophie Stammers and Gabriella Club, also turning out for Group 10.
Group 10 kicks off against Group 11 at 11.05am, before the third place playoff and grand final at 11.40am and 12.15pm respectively.
