Gee in on the act for Singin’ in the Rain

HE is usually only seen in State Parliament not getting ready to hit the stage to take part in a musical but next week member for Orange Andrew Gee will do exactly that.

He has signed up to play a cameo role in Orange Theatre Company’s (OTC) Singin’ in the Rain production which begins on Friday and he can’t wait.

“At the first rehearsal I was a little bit nervous, I’ve been in some school plays and university reviews but it’s been a long time,” he said.

“It’s only a very small role given Parliament sitting schedule, there’s no way I could do any more.”

Mr Gee will play his non-singing cameo as a dialogue coach in the Moses supposes scene.

“It’s a lot of work in terms of rehearsal time ... the cast and crew have been fantastic,” he said.

The decision to take part in a show was made during a conversation earlier this year with OTC’s John Lambert when Mr Gee said he’d always wanted to be in an OTC show.

“It looked like a lot of fun being involved with the show and it has been a lot of fun,” he said.

“The general public can blame Dr Lambert for this.”

While Mr Gee said he is looking forward to being part of the show.

“The general public will be spared my singing.”

Singin’ in the Rain director Peter Young said this is the first time a member of Parliament has taken part in an OTC production.

“It’s a really quick cameo but it fits in well with this production.”

Mr Young said Singin’ in the Rain in a faithful adaptation of the movie.

Singin’ in the Rain will hit the stage on Friday and runs until Saturday, October 27 with matinee and evening performances on offer.  Tickets can be purchased through the box office by calling 6393 8111 or through Ticketek.
