The fringe Test and international limited-over top-order specialist dislocated his left thumb taking a slip catch on Saturday afternoon at his home club Fremantle.

Marsh was rushed to hospital for medical attention to repair the joint and scans revealed there was no broken bone in his thumb or wrist.

Marsh, 32, is one of IPL franchise Punjab King's star performers but under competition regulations, a player's contract relies on them actually playing matches in a tournament.

He is expected to make a decision later this week whether to play in the WACA Grand Final when he has another assessment on the injury and any remaining swelling is examined ahead of his departure to India for IPL commitments.

A lengthy injury would have ruled Marsh out of next month's lucrative series and cost him a $500,000 deal.

When players are injured and miss games in Australia's high-profile Big Bash League, they remain entitled to payments in their contractual agreements.

Marsh is tipped to retain his Cricket Australia deal when officials announce a squad of 25 new contract holders on April 1, just days ahead of the latest IPL series and immediately after this month's T20 World Cup tournament in India.

He is likely to be among four West Australian stars to be awarded CA deals for the next year along with new batting sensation Adam Voges and his gifted brother Mitch Marsh.

Injury-prone all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile is also expected to win a base deal worth in the region of $600,000 as a player the national selectors anticipate could play for Australia at Test, limited-overs and T20 levels.

Marsh was one of seven Western Australian Sheffield Shield players who played in club weekend semi-finals after completing the interstate first-class program with a stunning innings and six-run win over Queensland in Brisbane late last Thursday.

His side Fremantle qualified to play an historic WACA Grand Final at Easter against the league's youngest club Rockingham-Mandurah, who made the play-off for a first time since joining the competition back a little less than two decades ago.

Fremantle last won the WACA league in 1991.

Rockingham-Mandurah's preliminary final success came off the back of a stunning innings from Dane Ugle who blasted 158 not out to guide the Mariners to a one-wicket win against Perth.

With the Mariners floundering at 5-141 in their pursuit of Perth's monster total of 2/353, the game looked almost over. However, Ugle started to counter-attack and formed a series of handy partnerships with the lower order.

There were still 40 runs needed when number 11 Joel Marion strode to the crease but, Ugle held his nerve and Marion held on to his wicket as the Mariners pushed towards an unlikely victory.

And, a massive six over long-on from Ugle completed an unlikely victory.

Coach Mark Atkinson, in his inaugural season steering the ship at Rockingham-Mandurah, didn't see the great escape coming after a tough first day either.

"Fantastic win, because after lunch (on day two) we were probably gone at five down," he said.

"Dane Ugle had the opportunity to make a hero of himself and he did."
