Spokespeople for award winning winemakers Philip Shaw Wines and Printhie say the Orange Wine Show was a good thing for the region.
Philip Shaw Wines sales and marketing manager Damian Shaw said locally produced wines scored well in the show.
“It’s great to see what Orange does, what it’s doing and the endorsement the local show provides,” he said.
The 2011 Philip Shaw Wines No.11 was the top scorer in the show with an award for best wine in show, best white wine and best chardonnay.
“We go through the vineyard by hand and the attention to detail that allows us to achieve that,” he said.
“It shows how the hard work that’s been put in and the attention to detail.”
While heavy rainfalls across Orange over the last two years led to a lower yield, it did not affect the wine’s quality, Mr Shaw said.
“It’s hard enough as it is but when you faced a challenge like the rain it’s great to get that result,” he said.
Printhie Wines also scored well in the show with their 2011 Printhie Wines MCC Shiraz winning best red of show and best shiraz.
Owner Ed Swift said cool climate shiraz is popular in the marketplace at the moment.
Positive feedback has been instant Mr Swift said and he had a call first thing yesterday from a retailer hoping to order the award-winning vintage.
“You get a lot of interest from the public which is fantastic, you might pick up some customers you didn’t have before,” he said.
“Talking to the judges they were really impressed with the shiraz.”
Mr Swift said the wine market is very competitive so “another string to the bow” is always a good thing.
While the shiraz is still six months off being released Mr Swift said there will be an opportunity to try it at the Wine Week public tasting event on Friday, October 12.
“If you get in quickly these trophy wines go really fast so if you want to try it get in quickly,” he said.
Mr Shaw said it was important to acknowledge the show’s judges.
