A council source contacted the Central Western Daily following a confidential briefing on Tuesday where results from the four-month trial were presented, saying a solution had been found to keep weekly collections from April onwards at an extra charge of $18 a year per household.
This was a reduction from the $23 extra charge originally flagged.
The business papers for Tuesday’s meeting, which were due to contain a recommendation to councillors on the matter, had not been released at the time of publication and the matter is still to be debated and voted on publicly.
But resident Maria Whalley, who runs family day care from home, said she would welcome keeping a weekly service.
“My bin was emptied [on Thursday] and it’s three-quarters full already,” she said.
“Between a big family and day care, it just happens.”
“Eighteen dollars is nothing really.
“I would prefer it was free, but you get nothing for free these days.”
The issue attracted an influx of social media comments, 120 submissions and almost 2000 petition signatures last year when the proposal was placed on public exhibition.
An audit of 500 red bins last year revealed only 19 per cent were full and 79 per cent of households did not put a green bin out.
