In the end only $100 was stolen from the premises, but the Orange business owner was still shocked someone broke into a venue that aims to provide an important service to the local community.
“We don’t know how it happened, the doors were all locked when we left,” she said.
“We came in this morning and all the money from the cash register had been taken as well as the change in the cupboard.”
Ms Jones said it wasn’t the first time money had been taken at Pee Wees.
“We got broken into two years ago and had money stolen,” Ms Jones said.
“They came in while the pole dancing girls were here, got into the room next door and broke down a door and took our safe and escaped out the fire exit.
“It could be the same person because they knew where the change bucket was and nothing else has been touched.”
The most disappointing thing for Ms Jones was that, although she was initially shocked when she opened the venue on Wednesday morning to find the register empty, she was in no way surprised.
“They didn’t get caught last time and the chances of getting a fingerprint are so slim because of the amount of people that come and go from here everyday,” she said.
“We’ve contacted the owners of the building and requested a security camera at the front door, we’re going to screw our safe to the floor from now on and also get additional locks.”
Break and enters from non-dwellings in Orange have remained steady over the past two years, with incidents showing no signs of reducing dramatically after 120 break-ins occurred in the 12 months to September in 2015, and 128 in the same period the previous year.
Ms Jones has called on anyone who might know anything regarding Wednesday morning’s incident to contact Orange Police.
