Over the weekend, a post was shared hundreds of times on several Facebook pages with claims there was a man in the Forest Reefs area who took aerial photos of people’s property and had attempted to break into those properties. 

However, Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Peter Atkins said no crime associated with the alleged incidents had been reported.

Residents posted to social media two men were using the photography as a way to case the home for break and enter points and gain access to homes by offering the photography to home owners. 

Inspector Atkins said Orange police were aware of the reports but had no evidence the people involved had any sinister motives, no reports of break and enters associated with the claims and police had not opened an investigation.

“There had been some reports of people approached about purchasing aerial photography but no reports at all of any crime associated with it,” he said. 

However, Inspector Atkins warned residents should be wary about any person who approaches the home without an invitation.

“Do not let people in the premises if you don’t know them,” he said.

“Check for identification, check that the individuals are bona fide. 

“If there is any doubt contact police or Crime Stoppers.”
