Members of the Rotary Club of Orange who have collaborated with Taste Orange for the third year in a row to run this year’s festival, have visited business owners in the central business district to encourage them to come on board with the window display competition.
“We are also linking businesses with local schools so it will be an opportunity for the children to exhibit their work in a public place as part of the festival,” Rotary Club of Orange spokesman Len Banks said.
Three years ago the 150th celebration of the birth of Banjo Paterson became the catalyst for Taste Orange and the Rotary Club of Orange to utilise the early part of the year and replace the Slow Summer Festival.
Mr Banks said school staff were contacted in November last year offering the opportunity for children to submit artworks for display in shop windows, by linking with businesses.
“We are going through that process of linking the schools up, but of course it has been a busy time for schools as they have only been back for a short time,” he said.
Businesses management first to put their hand up indicating they will take part in the window display competition are from Myer, Collins Booksellers, The Camera House and Mary and Tex.
Next in line to indicate their enthusiasm for taking part were staff at Katies, Hansen optometrist, Dragon Fly Cafe, Regency Jewellers, Kathmandu, Blue Illusion, A Slice of Orange, Everly Jewellers and Lowes.
Negotiations continue with management of several other stores.
Mr Banks said the organising committee is also appreciative of the Orange City Centre’s offer of a shopfront for a display, expected to be erected next week.
All participants in the window display competition will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Banjo Paterson Festival Committee.
First prize compliments of the CWD will be an advertising up-sizing package to the value of $1000 to any business who books advertising space up to three months after winning.
The winner will also receive a Banjo festival trophy.
