Police say they are not treating Mr Groat’s death as suspicious, however inquiries are continuing.
Mr Groat was found about 50 metres in from the edge of the forest in the area towards Cadia on Sunday afternoon, January 10,
His body was found by a Spring Hill farmer and was sent to Newcastle for forensic examination, with police saying dental records were used to identify Mr Groat.
Mr Groat was last seen in Orange on December 19 after he left a friend’s house. His vehicle was found in the Canobolas State Forest on Christmas Eve near Walkers Lane in close proximity to The Pinnacle.
His dog was also found by police and handed to family members.
Police assisted by State Emergency Services volunteers and Rural Fire Service volunteers carried out an intensive search of the Canobolas State Forest over a two week period, however after the search was scaled down, Mr Groat’s body was located.
Police say a report is now being prepared for the coroner.
