A SEVERE weather warning have been issued for the Orange and central tablelands area with damaging winds predicted.
Increasing north-westerly winds ahead of a cold front is expected to move through south-eastern New South Wales tonight.
Damaging winds around 50 km/h with peak gusts of 90 km/h are forecast for parts of the central tablelands.
Other areas to be affected include the Snowy Mountains, south coast, southern tablelands, south-west slopes, Riverina and the Australian Capital Territory districts mostly in the areas above 500 metres.
Alpine Peaks may experience winds around 80 km/h with peak gusts around 130 km/h.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
- Keep clear of fallen power lines
- For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
