A NATIONAL Police Remembrance Day service will be held at St Edward's Catholic Church in Canowindra today in memory of police officers who have died on duty.
A NATIONAL Police Remembrance Day service will be held at St Edward's Catholic Church in Canowindra today in memory of police officers who have died on duty.
The service will commence at 11am with Police Chaplain Joseph Dooley.
Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione APM said National Police Remembrance Day was one of the most important events on the NSW Police Force calendar.
"Since the formation of the NSW Police Force 150 years ago, 251 of our officers have lost their lives while serving the people of this great state," Commissioner Scipione said.
"National Police Remembrance Day provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon the ultimate sacrifice each of those 251 officers made, and pay tribute to their collective and individual legacies.
"A national service will be held later today at the National Police Memorial in Canberra. Services in honour of fallen police will also be held in New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands.
