Ninety students from years 7 to 12 performed hymms and covers of songs, including ABBA’s Super Trouper and Avril Lavigne’s Keep Holding On.
Campus administrator Mark Layton said performing for the public helped students feel part of the community.
“It’s the choir's first public event, it helps children in that they’re out there performing to the community and the community enjoy it,” he said.
While the school has run smaller choir groups in the past, their current choir has only been running for three months. Students put time and effort into rehearsals to perform for members of the aged care centre, some of whom are grandparents of the students.
School captains Wesley Betsha and Duane Reddel said singing in the choir connected students and the school to the community.
“Singing is a big part of the community ... it’s a recreational activity and involves everyone,” Duane said.
“"It's all about engagement and an opportunity to help out the community,” Wesley said.
Mr Layton said the school received a positive response from the community and hopes to expand the performance at the aged care facility into an annual event.
